Chief Executive Officer

Dr Tom Shepherd
Dr. Tom Shepherd has over 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in the areas of general management and business development.  Before joining CXR, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Neurotech S.A. in Paris, a Biotechnology company with research operations in France and the USA.  He has previously held Vice President positions with IntraBiotics Pharmaceuticals and ICN Pharmaceuticals in California, and several senior management positions in the United Kingdom, Australia, and Korea.  Dr. Shepherd obtained his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow in 1981.

Founders

Prof Roland Wolf - Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer
Professor Roland Wolf is a co-founder of CXR Biosciences, Director of the University of Dundee Biomedical Research Institute, and Honorary Director of the Cancer Research UK Molecular Pharmacology Unit.  His research interests include understanding the pathways that determine the sensitivity of cells to drugs, environmental agents and chemical toxins, in particular, the application of molecular genetic techniques to characterise chemical interactions with cells and how these interactions underpin therapeutic & toxicological properties.  Further research involves the study of genetic polymorphisms and how they relate to disease susceptibility, adverse drug pharmacology and toxicology.  Professor Wolf has published over 350 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has received many awards, including the Gerhard Zbinden Award for contributions to the area of drug and chemical safety.


Dr Cliff Elcombe - Co-Founder and Research Director
Dr Cliff Elcombe is co-founder and Technical Director of CXR Biosciences, as well as a Senior Lecturer in the Biomedical Research Centre, University of Dundee Medical School. Prior to founding CXR, Cliff joined the University of Dundee in February 1997 after an 18-year career at Zeneca's (formerly Imperial Chemical Industries) Central Toxicology Laboratory in Cheshire, England, where he was a Senior Scientist in Investigative Toxicology.
Dr. Elcombe’s research interests are focused on understanding mechanisms of target organ toxicity thereby facilitating scientifically-based risk assessment. Dr. Elcombe received his BSc and PhD in biochemistry from the University of Surrey and was awarded the European Society of Toxicology's young scientist award in 1984.
Dr Elcombe is the author or co-author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has served on several national and international advisory committees.

Management

Dr Eddie Doyle - Head of Laboratory Operations
Eddie has over 30 years experience of drug development. Before joining CXR he was Assistant Director of Drug Analysis, GlaxoSmithKline, managing a group representing multiple areas of scientific expertise.  These covered toxicology, biotransformation and pharmacokinetics in support of Discovery, Pre-Clinical and Clinical drug development.


Mrs Mary Ballantyne – Sales Director.
Mary has 30 years experience of health care and health care solutions. Before joining CXR Mary worked for 10 years in the NHS and then 20 years in the Pharmaceutical industry where she fulfilled a variety of Sales, Marketing, Training and Management roles.


Mr Gavin Hands - Financial Controller
Gavin has over 20 years experience in the financial management of small companies encompassing a wide variety of different sectors and is a fellow of the ACCA and a member of the ICAEW.
