Professor Roland Wolf, Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder of CXR Biosciences Ltd, has been awarded an OBE in the UK New Year’s Honours list in recognition of his services to science.
Professor Wolf is internationally renowned for his work in the fields of molecular pharmacology, drug metabolism and toxicology and he has previously been the recipient of several international scientific awards, such as the Gerhard Zbinden Award in 2001.
On receiving the news, Professor Wolf said: 'I feel very privileged to have received an OBE in the New Year Honours List, I would very much like to say that honours such as this reflect the combined contributions of many individuals who have worked with me over the years.'
After working in West Germany, the USA and England, he headed the Research Laboratories of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund's Medical Oncology Unit at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. In addition to his role as CSO of CXR Biosciences, Professor Wolf is currently Director of the Biomedical Research Institute at the University of Dundee and Honorary Director of Cancer Research UK’s Molecular Pharmacology Unit.
In December 2001, Professor Wolf, together with Dr. Cliff Elcombe, founded CXR Biosciences in Dundee to provide innovative solutions for evaluating compound safety in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. He has been Chief Scientific Officer of the company since its foundation and plays a key role in the development of CXR’s technology platforms and novel approaches to problem solving.
Dr. Shepherd, Chief Executive of CXR commented: “It is very pleasing to see public recognition of the contribution over many years of a distinguished scientist. In both the academic and commercial spheres, Roland has been tireless in his pursuit of excellence in science and thoroughly merits this award”.
